4 Things to do in Portland, Oregon

Have you ever been to Portland, Oregon?

Roughly three hours south from Seattle - Portland is a city whose motto is to: “Keep Portland Weird”. Known for its quirky fashion and unique vibes the City of Roses should be on your must visit list. I recently had the opportunity to re-acquaint myself with the city and cannot wait to make another trip back!

Excited to visit but don’t know where to begin? I got you! Let me share 4 things to do to get your itinerary started.

Portland Japanese Garden - (Price: $21.95 per person)

Located in Washington Park, the Portland Japanese Garden is a tranquil oasis with eight garden styles that allows you to immerse yourself in Japanese culture. Meditate in the Zen gardens or watch a demonstration at the authentic tea house. Be sure to take a break and have a snack at the Umami café - try something off their seasonal menu, you won’t regret it.

Powell’s City of Books

No trip to Portland is complete without stepping foot into Powell’s City of Books. The world’s largest independently owned bookstore, Powell’s is a bibliophile’s dream. With 3,500 different sections divided into 10 colors - I guarantee that there is something for everyone. During the weekend be sure to stop in the rare book room on the fourth floor.

Lan Su Chinese Garden - (Price: $14.00 per person)

While much smaller than the Japanese Garden, Lan Su is still worth the visit. Located in the international district Lan Su or the “Garden of Awakening Orchids” is the most authentic garden outside of China. The gardens are modeled after the Ming Dynasty and is a cultural blend of architecture, design and nature. Stop into the teahouse for pu’er tea and almond cookies.

Tom McCall Waterfront Park

Walk alongside the Willamette river and learn about Portland’s maritime history. It’s also the location of the Portland Saturday Market, the largest arts and crafts fair in America. (It’s open from March to December)
